Digital photography for beginners.  An eight week course based at Eckington School, with a week break on the 24th September 2011 (half term holiday.) The next course starts on Monday the 12th September 2011 with the last session ending on 7th November the 2011

(PLACES AVAILABLE) An eight week course based at Eckington School The sessions are restricted to 10 places to ensure plenty of one to one support.

 The course is a practical course and tailored to your needs.  It is flexible and if there is something that you wish to learn that is not in the course content, i will do my best to cover it!

Course details for Digital photography (Beginners.)

 Week 1. The construction of a camera. 

We will learn the workings of your camera and its settings. We will look at how to change the quality and size of an image and also how to download your images onto the computer.

 Week 2. Composition and framing. 

We will look at the effects that different angles, heights, horizon line and the distance from an object can have on an image.  

We will practice on various still life set ups and learn to achieve stunning close up (macro) shots.

 Week 3. Lighting and flash.

The lighting of an object can make or break an image. We will learn how to manipulate different types of light to achieve the image that you want.  This includes natural and studio lighting

We will practice portrait photography and documentation photography.

 Week 4. Exposure and aperture.

We will learn about the effects of long and short exposure and depth of field. We will also look at techniques such as panning and how to reduce camera shake and blurring.

Week 5. Recap on the past four weeks with time built in to go over anything that you feel that you may need extra practice on.

 Week 6 and 7. How to correct basic mistakes such as red eye brightness.

How and where to store your images

How to crop and where and when to print your images.

We will also learn about layers and other manipulation techniques such as changing your image into black and white and altering colours using photoshop elements.

 Week 8.  

This week will finish with a recap session and cover anything that you feel like you need extra help with.

 You will receive a folder with all the information from the course.

 The course is restricted to 10 places so you will receive plenty of one to one support as well as group tuition.

Sessions can be arranged in your own home.

1 hour sessions £40

3 hours - £120

or add £40 and split the cost for the three hour session between two people.  £80 each.

Intermediate Digital photography course. 

Course times 7.00pm - 9.00pm.

This course is designed to follow on from the Digital photography for beginners course but is suitable for anyone with a Digital SLR who is comfortable with their own camera and how to use its settings.You would need to have a basic grasp of how to change your aperture, shutter speed, ISO and white balance etc.

Equipment that would be useful for this course;

·        DSLR or a camera that will allow you to manually change your aperture and shutter speed.

·        A Tripod.

·        Some type of basic digital manipulation software, such as photoshop elements.

·        A pen drive/ USB memory stick  

 Course times are 7.00pm - 9.00pm and are priced at £15 per session.

Payment in full is needed in advance (£120) to secure a place.

 Itinerary.

Week one; How to manipulate light.

We will look at the way in which light can dramatically change a portrait and the way to get the best out of the human figure. We will also look at white balance in more detail and learn how to set your custom white balance to create instant effects.

Week two; Stop Motion (Fast shutter speeds.)

This session will use a combination of flash photography and fast shutter speeds to capture quick moving objects such as droplets and splashes of water.

Week three; Documentary photography, macro.

We will talk about lenses and depth of field. Subjects to be photographed will include plates of food, hats, flowers, wedding jewellery and anything that you may wish to bring in.

Week four; Landscape and textures.

We will talk about the advantages and disadvantages of using various resolution settings including Raw in your camera.

We will also practice lanscape photography techniques including using filters, aperture, light and panning. Because of the time of year these techniques will be used on set ups inside the classroom. We will use these images to learn how to use layers in the next session.

Week five: Creating effects using long exposure. (depending when half term lands the order of this session may change.)

This session will take place on site in Sheffield town centre.We will use Ponds forge roundabout, trams and traffic to create images with light trails and motion blur.

We will meet outside ponds forge sports centre next to the main entrance at 7.00pm

You will need a tripod for this session and any filters that you have.

Week Six; Photo correction.

You will be given a selection of images, all that can be improved in some way. Using a selection of tools, we will learn how to touch up your images.

Week 7; A chance to work on any techniques that you would like to improve on.  Many projects will be set up around the room and any outstanding questions can be answered.

Week 8; We will discover how to use layers in photoshop and create an arty photograph using textures and landscape photography.
